Hi everyone and thanks for joining Auckland Skeptics in the Pub.
First up, we all owe a debt of gratitue to Unifex, who started the Christchurch Skeptics in the Pub and graciously gave up some of his meetup.com 'credit' to start the group.
I'll be running/organising this until such time as I'm physically restrained or someone else wants to take it on!
First up, let me introduce myself. My name is Mike Kilpatrick and I'm a Scot who moved to New Zealand around four and a half years ago. I can be found on Facebook at
http://www.facebook.com/mikekilpatrick or on Twitter at
http://www.twitter.com/nzskepticI used to be a scientist, but a really bad experience at a natural products company put me off completely and re-ignited my skepticism. I found the SGU podcast and the rest, they say, is history.
So I gave up science as a career (and in the process started enjoying it again) and retrained as a journalist. I work for Yahoo!Xtra and have just started as their rugby reporter. I also do general sports stuff.
I'm based in West Auckland, but I travel to the city every day for work so a meet-up in either of those places would do for me. I suspect the city will prove to be most popular, but feel free to suggest any pubs or similar places anywhere in Auckland that you think would be good for a meet-up.
I'd hope we'd be able to get a meet-up organised sometime towards the end of August and hopefully that will start something sustainable, skeptical and, of course, fun.
But of course, I need your input to help decided when and where, so don't be shy.
I look forward to meeting as many of you as possible at the inaugural Auckland Skeptics in the Pub!
Remember to spread the word to any friends or colleagues who share your skeptical leanings!
Cheers
Mike
Best regards
Mike
