Hi everyone,

Apologies for being incommunicado for the last few days. Unfortunately the All Blacks weren't as awesome as our Skeptics in the Pub meeting so I've had a fair amount on in the last few days.

Here are the (unfiltered - apart from where I couldn't decipher handwriting) ideas that were written down last Thursday (just so all you skeptics can see I'm not hiding anything! smile):

  • Pub is good. Fifteen year-olds can still come. They just can't drink
  • Once a month would be great but we'll see
  • Once a month sounds ideal. I enjoy the pub environment and it seems others do as well.
  • Speakers and organised events
  • Agree about the pub - and also keen not to conflate skepticism and atheism. I like the idea of having guest speakers and some sort of structure to the meeting
  • Skepticism needs to be POSITIVE. Education is more effective than criticism.
  • Monthly is good. Anywhere works. Guest and topic nights would be effective.
  • Once a month. Pub is good - but the odd event at a cafe or outdoor event. Suggest meesage from NZ to embed in Skeptic Zone podcast.
  • Every 40 das?
  • Except weekends
  • It's called Skeptics in the PUB
  • Focus on some one talking about something
  • New Zealand feel
  • Making list for quick action
  • Get list of people's expertise - skill matrix
  • Speak on progressive topics - regional NZ based.
  • We at Rationalist House can offer a free room for 50 people to meet at 64 Symonds Street.
  • No Maori culture bashing please. There are other issues to focus on.
  • Agree with above, except where health issues are concerned (Makutu etc). Monthly meeting with a speaker would be great.
  • Every monthly meeting on the 13th.
  • Make it someting like the first Thursday of the month.
  • Proactive instead of reactive - organise talks in schools etc.
  • Talk ~20 minutes - 1/2 hour then open discussion.
  • Invite speakers - University, year of astronomy, theology lectures.
  • Guest Speakers
  • A book club style where everybody reads a book and then we all talk about it.
  • A list of books

So it seems that monthly meetings with guests and a structure seems to be the way forward. I'm waiting to hear back from the pub to see if that will be available to us again free of charge or whether they'll be looking for some money.

Feel free to add to the list of ideas!
