I emailed The Cavalier Tavern (College Hill, Ponsonby) two days ago but have not heard back yet.
Will let you know when I get a reply. I will also continue to ask around. |

So we're going to be called "Skeptics in Any Available (Cheap) Venue In (or Near) the CBD with Available Parking"?

Can we not guarantee we will spend a certain amount , and make up the shortfall between us, if this is not the case . And been aware of this I'm sure we will all spend a little more at the bar individually .
Rather than paying money for fresh air rental we will receive either food or drink, and all will be well again |

I'm not sure that'll work...
I think I recall seeing somewhere - minimum spend $2000... Craig - am I wrong? |

Well my vote goes towards making Auckland SitP an event that a lot of people want to attend. Then we shouldn’t have the problem with the bar not making enough money.

Its an hour drive for me from here and another back so I wont be drinking much but $10 in then $15 for food would be fine for me. So all up its about $50 with petrol for me to attend I may end up a once every two months sort of a guy. What about a min $5 in and pay what you feel its worth / can afford? Look forward to my first meeting, please just be gentle.....

FYI...
Hi Stephen, Thanks for your e-mail. Unfortunately we do not have a private function room. Normally when a function is held here we provide an area of the bar, deck or restaurant free of charge for the duration of the function. Thursday evenings are normally pretty steady in terms of trade so I wouldn't recommend it as a venue if you were looking for somewhere suitably quiet in regards to speeches etc. However, we do have our different groups that meet here on a monthly occasion in a similar fashion to yours and have been doing so for a long time, some for several years. We'd love to see you down here for a few ales if you wanted to give us a try. Otherwise, we wish you all the best for the future. Many thanks Dan Buchanan Cavalier Tavern 68 College Hill Ponsonby Auckland d: 376 4230 f: 376 9650 m: 021 71 71 76 w: thecavalier.co.nz |

We now have a new venue!
Yesterday I met with the proprietors of The Windsor Castle Pub in Parnell (corner Windsor Street and Parnell Road). They are extremely friendly and would love to have us. They have a small room downstairs where we'll meet next week. It will be a little cramped, but cosy :) May is a difficult month as it's NZ Music Month, so lots of live music happening, but they're keen to discuss options for the future. They have suggested that if we moved to a Monday or Tuesday night they'd open the pub for us and we'd have the run of the place. Anyway, it all sounds good so far. Parking in Parnell can be difficult, but the streets tend to clear out after 6pm, and there are lots of side streets to navigate to find a park. See you there! |
